The Penhas Douradas, in Serra da Estrela at about 1,300 meters above sea level is one of the coldest regions of the country. It was here that came to be the first mountain tourist resort in Portugal.

The Rossim Valley is located in Penhas Douradas in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, with the largest valley glacier in Europe, and the Rossim Valley lagoon, the highest beach in Portugal.
