Pessegueiro Island, near Porto Covo, is one of the most beautiful places on the Alentejo coast.
Scholars believe that the occupation of this coast dates back to Carthaginian navigators, before the Second Punic War (218-202 BC). At the time of the Roman occupation of the Iberian peninsula, the island housed a small fishing center, as evidenced by the recently discovered remains of salting tanks.

A Ilha do Pessegueiro, ao largo de Porto Covo, é um dos locais mais bonitos da Costa Alentejana.
Os estudiosos acreditam que a ocupação desta costa remonta a navegadores cartagineses, em época anterior à segunda guerra púnica (218-202 a.C.). À época da ocupação romana da península Ibérica, a ilha abrigou um pequeno centro pesqueiro, conforme atestam os vestígios, recentemente descobertos, de tanques de salga.
