Intense storms continue to slam into California, bringing near-historic levels of rain in many regions. On Tuesday, heavy downpours, hail and lightning strikes San Francisco and across much of the East Bay.

Pellet sized ice fell during the start of the noon hour in San Francisco. By 12:30 pm, the hail had made its way to the Oakland Hills where it fell in Steve Tessler’s backyard. There was so much hail, it looked more like snow on the streets of the Parkridge Estates neighborhood.

The hail quickly came and went and while most melted, some stayed behind in patches on rooftops and patios. People don't recall ever seeing weather like the stretch of storms the Bay Area has had for the past few days.

A cell that moved over San Francisco and the East Bay around noon triggered 5-10 lightning strikes every 5 minutes. A large tree fell on top of a Muni bus near Union Square, while Sutro Tower was struck by lightning just before noon.

The National Weather Service issued special weather statements warning of the intensity of the storm cells for San Francisco, Oakland, Concord, and the central San Francisco Bay.

While the weather service said this isn't a severe storm, the impacts could be significant due to the high amounts of rain the region has recently received. Risks include flooding, fallen trees and power outages. Higher rainfall totals and more significant impacts are expected with a weekend storm.

The channel lists such natural disasters as:
1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, Volcanic eruption, Mud, Landslide, Avalanche;
2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological disaster,
3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire;
4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Tornado, Hail, Hurricane, Tsunami, Storm, Thunderstorm, Tempest.
