Seen from afar, the outline of the Cathedral's towers is a point of reference for anyone visiting the city of Viseu. The current cathedral was built next to a primitive Swabian-Visigoth temple that would date from the 10th century, a time when the town was the capital of an extensive territory limited between the Douro and Mondego rivers. However, it was during the reign of D. Afonso Henriques that the imposing cathedral, a symbol of Viseense history, began to take shape.

Visto de longe, o recorte das torres da Sé é um ponto de referência para quem visita a cidade de Viseu. A actual catedral foi construída junto a um primitivo templo suevo-visigótico que dataria do século X, época em que a povoação foi capital de um extenso território limitado entre os rios Douro e Mondego. Porém, foi durante o reinado de D. Afonso Henriques que a imponente catedral, símbolo da história viseense, começou a tomar forma.
