Organ transplants in the UK save thousands of lives each year – from living and deceased donors. Every day there are more and more people added to waiting lists for essential organs they desperately need such as lungs, kidneys, hearts and more. Many people spend years waiting for the right organ to come along – and for many, this can sadly come all too late. One recipient of organ donation – Jacquie Dowding – is living proof of the life that transplants can give back to people like me and you. Jacquie received a kidney transplant 29 years ago, and is sadly finding herself on the NHS waiting list once again as it is now failing. While Jacquie valiantly waits for the right donor to arrive, however, she has decided to go the extra mile to raise awareness of why live organ donation is so important – by mounting a trip to sail to the Azores.
