In mid September 2023 we flew from Canada to Lisbon where we immediately got on a train to Porto. We planned a couple of days in Porto to adjust to the time change and also because we were there in 2018 and loved it. We had some light rain the first day so we picked up our Camino passports and walked around the city. In 2018 we walked the north side of the Duro river to the ocean and a then north towards Matsosinhos. This time we rented ebikes and rode along the south side of the river to the ocean, and then south. On our third morning in Porto, we took the train to Matsosinhos and began our journey. The weather was great for almost the entire time we were on the Costal Camino. We chose a route that kept us as close to the ocean as possible. The signage is great, the route surface varies from day to day, pavement or boardwalk, some gravel roads and occasionally sand where the boardwalk has deteriorated. We had two mornings of light rain that lasted 15 minutes. Good weather, lots of food options, beer is cheap! Adventure Girl booked all our accommodations online via booking.com We always had breakfast included, a private room with bathroom. We planned how far we would go everyday by what accommodations were available months before we left. Also, we stayed extra nights in a few places because in 2018, when we rode the Coastal Camino on a self guided bike tour, there were a number of times we wanted to stay in a cute seaside town and do some sightseeing. Adventure Girl fell and sprained her ankle so, to give her ankle a rest and ensure we could enjoy the upcoming cycling part of our vacation, we found other ways to get to our prebooked accommodations.
