Spilling the Tea on My Travel-Influenced Obsession

My tea time obsession started when I enjoyed an Afternoon Tea at the English Rose Tea Room in Chandler, Arizona.

I went with my dear friend Melinda, and the pretty posh atmosphere and total attention to detail charmed me. Well, it didn’t just charm me; it made me think about how caring it felt. Someone put so much work into curating and creating, dreaming up and making something splendid, and then invited others to relax and take part in it. The feeling I get from it is different than even our best meals out.

That was in November 2021. I didn’t get to enjoy another afternoon tea until early September 2022, nearly a year later. In Galway. When we went to Dublin in late September, I rationalized booking another afternoon tea.

Once in Portugal, I learned that the Afternoon Tea Tradition that I’d attributed to Great Britain had its roots in Portugal. We almost kicked off 2023 with tea time by having a 5 O’Clock Tea at Tivoli Palace in Sintra on January 4th.

The Banana Snickers were so delicious!!! But, a little melty by the time we got to them.
