Panel Discussion: BEING A LEADER: HARDER OR SIMPLER THAN BEFORE
BOOST2024 – Building Better Tourism

Speakers:
Ms. Alessandra Priante - Director for Europe UNWO
Mr. Bernardo Trindade - President of AHP

Moderator:
Ms. Dolores Semeraro - Sustainable tourism marketing specialist and keynote speaker

Key Topics:

1. IMPACT
Today's environmental and social impact on the tourism industry calls for radical leadership. We are observing a generational value-shifting era in which leadership is no longer something simply accepted, but chosen. And the Tourism industry is not different.

When everyone else is looking at quick fixes and immediate results, what do you think generates - not the most - but the longest positive impact when it comes to leadership?
What are the values you would put forward (or bring back) to build stronger and relevant fundation of the tourism industry of tomorrow?

2. CHANGE
Change is the only constant. It is channeled through the needs and demands of travellers of our destinations and the guests of our hotels AND it is undeniably felt across the core of hospitality organizations, reflecting the loyalty of our employees and colleagues. Yet, the industry adapts much faster to the first and is more reluctant to respond to the second.

If we compare a leader to a lighthouse, something people refer to, a safe harbor to seek guidance. As a leader today, how do you remain relevant and authentic to your team and industry peers?
What do you think needs to be in place for change to become an opportunity?

3. WORKPLACE
People used to go to work and then go home, to their families, their hobbies, their lives. Now they bring their 'home' into work, the personalities in the workplace, their identities on the day-to-day duties. On average, a person spends 1/3 of their lifetime at work, and in the tourism industry even more.

What kind of leadership turns the workplace into a haven of growth and possibilities, a place where a sense of belonging is created and people feel understood and supported?
