Being off season it's quiet in The Algarve, the crowds don't start coming until summer months. There are more retired people staying here over the winter months from Northern Europe the U.K, Ireland and North America. With it being winter half the restaurants close but there are still many open where you can enjoy the tasty Portuguese food.

Portugal is one of the safest countries in Europe but you should still be aware of the possibilities of petty crime, we luckily have never experienced it. Portugal is also more affordable for food and they do produce a wide range of great quality food, making it a smart economical choice for a long stay winter break.
