Terena, also known as São Pedro or São Pedro de Terena, is a beautiful Alentejo village, belonging to the municipality of Alandroal, situated in a beautiful region where peace of mind reigns supreme, near the Ribeira and the Lucifécit Dam, and the border with Spain.

The origins of this village are very remote, existing in the region several megalithic vestiges of prehistoric times, such as the shining Antas of Lucas.
In the Middle Ages this village played an important defensive role, as evidenced by its Castle, which was part of the Guadiana defense line.
It is thought that the foundation of Terena will date from 1262, having previously been occupied by other peoples, such as the Moors who have left their mark here.

The calm streets of Terena are characterized by the beautiful Alentejana architecture of a rural country house, with colorful stripes and proud patrimony, as can be seen in the old Castle of the village, in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Boa Nova, in the Church of Saint Peter in the foundation before the 14th century, in the beautiful Church of the Misericordia (16th century), in the Chapel of St. Anthony (erected in 1657), the Chapels of St. Sebastian, Our Lady of the Conception of the Holy Fountain or even the ruins of the Chapel of Santa Clara.
In Terena, it is also worth noting the 16th century Pelourinho, the Clock Tower, the Roman ruins of the fortified village of Endovélico and its sanctuary, as well as the ruins of Castro de Castelo Velho.
